Joseph McFadden is the Principal Investigator of the study. He is the Associate Professor of Dairy Cattle Biology at Cornell University, and the goal of his research focus "is to enhance the health and productive efficiency of dairy cattle." While McFadden claims the reason for the study is to increase milk production efficiency for environmental and food security purposes, looking into his connections puts an alternate twist on the reasoning for this study. McFadden is a Faculty Fellow of Northeast Agribusiness and Feed Alliance (NEAFA), an organization with the mission being "to support and grow a sustainable agribusiness industry in the Northeast." The NEAFA regularly donates money to other agricultural organizations, especially those related to dairy such as the 4-H Junior Dairy Leaders Program and the NY Holstein Spring Dairy Carousel. The NEAFA has also supported and worked with PRO-DAIRY, a Cornell organization that McFadden is also a part of. PRO-DAIRY has the express purpose of furthering the reach and goals of the dairy industry, including its profits. Their mission statement is to "facilitate New York state economic development by increasing the competitiveness and sustainability of New York's dairy farm businesses through industry-applied research and educational programs that enhance farm profitability while advancing dairy producers and agribusiness professionals' knowledge, skills and enthusiasm." With all of this information, it seems that McFadden has his feet deep in the dairy industry and boosting their profits and look in the public eye. The environment and food security are not his first priority.

Amanda Davis is the Co-principal Investigator of the study. She is an Assistant Professor of SUNY Cortland's Biological Sciences Department. She has worked with McFadden and is a part of his lab. She focuses her studies around dairy cattle as well, specifically insulin resistance and role of ceramide in that. Not too much else is relevant to the study, but she did work under McFadden in order to get her MS in animal science.
